According to a report from SportsOneSource.com, California Governor Jerry Brown has vetoed a bill that requires minors to wear helmets while skiing or snowboarding.

“While I appreciate the value of wearing a ski helmet, I am concerned about the continuing and seemingly inexorable transfer of authority from parents to the state. Not every human problem deserves a law," Brown wrote in a letter sent to the California State Senate quoted in the report. "I believe parents have the ability and responsibility to make good choices for their children."

The bill would make it a crime for a person younger than 18 to take to the slopes without a helmet.

A similar law was recently passed in the state of Utah and reaches across the nation’s snowsports clubs as the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association is headquartered in Park City, Utah and all the organization’s branches are required to comply.
