American speed skier Chelsea Marshall was injured today (Jan. 12) in Cortina d Ampezzo, Italy when she crashed during a downhill training run ahead of World Cup competition this weekend.

Marshall, 25, broke her left scapula and suffered a yet undiagnosed injury to her right knee. She will travel back to the U.S. for further evaluation.

Marshall, a Pittsfield, Vermont native, has scored three World Cup top-20 finished over the last two seasons and is a part of the powerful U.S. Women’s speed team that earned more World Cup points than any other nation last season.
