For years, Beaver Creek Senior Director of Mountain Operations Greg Johnson would ski through the trees near the Golden Eagle racecourse beneath the Birds of Prey Express and imagine where and how a second world-class trail might be incorporated into the hillside.

“Right around the time of Salt Lake City [2002 Olympic Winter Games], I’d be riding the lift or skiing up there on a powder day, and I started thinking about it,” says Johnson, who also serves as chief of race for Birds of Prey. “It was totally informal. I was literally dreaming.”
