Slovene competitor Andrej Jerman abruptly announced his retirement Monday (Jan 28) after 15 years on the World Cup circuit. He is 34 years old.

Jerman crashed during the first training run for the Hahnenkamm downhill at Kitzbuehel, got up and skied down. He then collapsed unconscious in the finish area and was helicoptered to hospital.

Doctors diagnosed a severe concussion.

Jerman is the only Slovene male to have won a World Cup downhill, having first won at Garmisch in 2007 and again winning at Bormio in 2009.
