WJC - Jennifer Piot is World Junior downhill champion

Jennifer Piot is the World Junior downhill champion. The young Frenchwoman was joined on the podium by teammate Romane Miradoli with Austrian Stephanie Venier taking silver.

The LeMassif track is a challenging test for the junior competitors. we asked the top American finisher (8th) Jacqueline Wiles, to take us down.

“Coming off the top are some tough pitches you have to ski like a GS, good tight turns, and then from there you want to keep your bullie and the speed picks up quite a bit, then it comes into a jump and you have got to make sure you get good prep going over it.When you land you have a big right footer with a little bit of wait and you have to make sure you're long legged to absorb all the terrain. Then you come into Basketball turn, which is a really, really big left footer with a big fall away so you have to be sure your over the outside ski absorbing all those little bumps and terrain and then it's full bull all the way to the finish and tuck as hard as you can.”

The course had firmed up overnight and was good and fast.

“It's a good fast track,” said Wiles. “It firmed up nicely, the cat helped a lot.” As for her run, “I'll take it, but it's not what I wanted.”

Piot felt she had almost willed herself to win. “How cool! I can’t believe it. I was so frustrated with my 10th place in Super G. I am really happy because a title like this really isn’t easy to achieve. From the very first day I came here, I said that I liked the slope at Le Massif and it brought me luck.”

Katie Ryan finished 16th and Abby Ghent 27th. Katherine Irwin sustained an injury to hr left knee and was taken for evaluation.
