Park City Huntsman Cup: Washburn wins disabled GS
Two more U.S. disabled standing skiers, Monte Meier (LW-2) and Clay Fox (LW-4) joined Washburn in the top three with second and third place, respectively.
Washburn finished the race with a two-run time of 1 minute, 58.07 seconds. Meier finished with 2:06.66 and Fox with 2:07.58.
Germany's Reinhild Moeller (LW-4) moved up to the top spot for the standing women's GS with a two-run time of 2:09.02. She was followed by Sandy Dukat (LW-2) with 2:11.87 and Allison Jones (LW-2) with 2:13.35.
The sit-ski GS competition was also promising for U.S. athletes. Roger Lee (LW-11) came in first for the men with a time of 2:28.44. John Knudsen (LW-12/2) was close behind with 2:29.65 and was followed by Canadian Brad Lennea (LW-12/1) with 2:30.65.
The women swept the top three positions in the sit-ski GS with Laurie Stephens (LW-12/1) in first. Stephens finished her two runs in 2:12.63. Stephani Victor (LW-12/1) stepped down from Tuesday to second place with a time of 2:15.03. Emily Winter (LW-12/1) held onto her third-place position with a time of 4:14.75.
Harsh snow conditions did not let up for day two of the Huntsman Cup. 'It was a pretty difficult course due to the snow conditions' said Moeller. 'It was almost like skiing through a mine field with bumps.' The Huntsman Cup wraps up Jan. 5 with another GS competition.
