World Cup cross country distance races were on tap on today, the last day of competition in Trondheim, Norway, as Slovenian powerhouse Petra Majdic grabbed yet another victory, her second in three days. Finn Sami Jauhojervi earned his first career World Cup victory shocking the favorites.

World champion, Poland’s Justyna Kowalczyk and Japan’s Masako Ishida joined Majdic on today’s 30K podium in second and third, respectively. Kowalczyk has a commanding lead in the distance standings and is second, trailing Majdic by 91 points, in the overall race. It was Ishida’s first career World Cup podium.

Majdic has already clenched this year’s sprint title and now looks to close in on the overall globe with eight World Cup wins on the season.

Jauhojervi won the men’s race 38 seconds ahead of German Tobias Angerer in second and Canadian Alex Harvey in third.

Overall leader Petter Northug of Norway finished fifth, while distance leader, Italian Pietro Piller Cottrer finished 13th.

No Americans competed in Trondheim today.

The cross country World Cup now heads to Stockholm, Sweden for a pair of sprint races held March 18, before concluding in Falun, Sweden March 20-23.
