Head Alpine Ski Race Coach – Missoula, Montana

The Missoula Ski Education Foundation (MSEF), a member Club of the USSA Northern Division, is currently accepting resumes for the Head Coach position.  MSEF has a more than 40-year history of developing junior athletes that successfully compete at the divisional, regional and national levels.  The program has approximately sixty U8 – U18 athletes with a strong volunteer support base.

Prefer candidates with prior racing and coaching U8-U18 experience.  Candidates should hold a USSA coaching license and race official credentials, or show the ability to get those credentials by fall of 2014.  Candidates should have good communication and strong leadership skills.

Head Coach Responsibilities include mentoring athlete development, hiring and managing the coaching staff, coordinating training and racing schedules, communicating with athletes and parents, and leading, administering and building the race programs.   We have administrative support to assist the head coach.  This is a six-month salaried position.  Salary dependent upon experience.

The Missoula Ski Education Foundation race team is in a natural lull period between high athlete numbers, and is in a recruitment cycle for younger athletes.  We currently have a very popular ski development program for young kids that should provide the basis for future growth on the race team. This position thus offers an exciting opportunity for the right person to shape the future of the race program.

Missoula, Montana’s second largest city, is a vibrant outdoor-oriented community that offers a ski mountain close to town, easily accessible mountain bike trails, a kayaking wave in downtown, and rivers in all directions.  In addition, Missoula offers great quality of life with excellent schools, numerous arts and non-profit organizations as well as the University of Montana.  We enjoy the cultural, recreational and economic diversity that one would be hard-pressed to find in most traditional ski towns.  Please submit your cover letter and resume by June 15, 2014.  For questions, please contact Tom Coston at tcoston@mtrail.com.
