Who is racing in Levi, when, and how to watch the women’s first World Cup Slalom of the new season
The Women’s Slalom season kicks off in Levi, Finland, on November 11th and 12th. Stifel US Ski Team member Mikaela Shiffrin, the ski racer with the most career victories, readies herself for the challenge. She’s a powerhouse on skis with seven World Cup Slalom titles and a record six wins in Levi. With anticipation in the air, spectators await to see another of her record-breaking performances. Shiffrin’s brilliant skills and unbeatable focus make her the pre-race favorite. Although Shiffrin has recently experienced a training injury, she has trained well, and excellence remains likely.
However, the Women’s Slalom discipline provides fierce competition. Shiffrin competes against talented rivals. To name a few, Wendy Holdener from Switzerland and Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova, a five-time Levi winner, bring considerable ability. A rising star, Paula Moltzan of the Stifel US Ski Team, hunts for her first victory.
Among the contenders are three talented Canadian athletes: Laurence St-Germain, the reigning World Champion in Slalom, and top skiers Ali Nullmeyer and Amelia Smart.
North Americans not starting among the first 30 in Levi
AJ Hurt and Zoe Zimmermann of the Stifel US Ski Team are ready to compete alongside the independent US athlete Lila Lapanja, who achieved a Levi 25th-place finish in 2020.
Ski Racing Media is thrilled to acknowledge a first as Levi marks Stifel US Ski Team member Dasha Romanov’s debut on the World Cup stage. Her excitement and determination are palpable as she prepares to make her mark in this exciting event, showcasing her talent and skill to the world. Canada will also feature a first-time World Cup skier, Justine Lamontagne from Mount Sainte-Anne, who will make her inaugural start in Levi.
USA’s Karin Harjo is the second run course setter
It should be noted that Stifel US Ski Team coach Karin Harjo, Shiffrin’s Head Coach, will set the second run on Saturday.
