Cortina: Super G moved as snows continue

The training run at Cortina for a women's World Cup downhill had to be cancelled Thursday, prompting officials to call off the super G that had been scheduled Friday.
Too much snow in the Dolomites is listed as the cause as it proved impossible to remove snow from the course. Friday's super G, which had been a make up race for Aspen where it was also snowed out, has been rescheduled for Monday. The rest of the Cortina schedule remains intact, at least so far, with a downhill Saturday and super G Sunday.

Friday's super G, which had been a make up race for Aspen where it was also snowed out, has been rescheduled for Monday. The rest of the Cortina schedule remains intact, at least so far, with a downhill Saturday and super G Sunday. Friday is the last day left for training.
World Cup downhill leader Lindsey Vonn and five of her U.S. teammates will compete in the weekend races.
With the training scrubbed, U.S. athletes took the day off for some powder skiing. About a meter of snow fell on the upper parts of the mountain and the women savored the day off in the 1956 Olympic village.
"We had a good powder day. It was a lot of fun with some good face shots," laughed Megan McJames, who scored her first World Cup points last year in a giant slalom in Cortina. "This is definitely a challenging course, but fortunately we had a chance to inspect yesterday and that helped me learn more about the hill.
"This is definitely a more challenging course [for speed instead of GS], but everything is set up so well and they've worked so hard to prepare the course," said McJames, the 2006 NorAm overall, super G, and GS champion. "I'm excited about having my first training run."
Vonn has won two downhills this season and the only super combined so far, and has 330 points with Canadian Britt Janyk second at 224. In addition to Vonn and McJames, U.S. skiers competing this weekend include Julia Mancuso, Stacey Cook, Libby Ludlow and defending NorAm overall and SG champion Leanne Smith.
