Defending national aerials champion Dylan Ferguson retained his title today (March 25) at the U.S. Freestyle Championships at Stratton Mountain.

Mike Rossi finished second followed by Mac Bohonnon in third to round out the men’s podium.

“I felt great this morning, I was excited to watch our development kids compete in their first nationals and to see some sweet jumps from them,” said Ferguson, who at 23, was the oldest athlete on the podium. “With the difficult conditions we were dealing with, everyone was competing on a level field which helped some of our development kids get on the podium. It was cool to see.”

With difficult course conditions requiring more than 3,000 lbs of dry ice to maintain the jump site, the door was open for rookie Madison Olsen to take her first title and earn a spot on the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team.

“It’s a really exciting win for me, especially since this is my first nationals,” said Olsen. “Even though the weather conditions weren’t the best we all went out there and did our best and had a good time with it. It worked out in my favor today. To be the aerials national champion is huge!”

Kiley McKinnon placed second and Madison Goreli landed third.

The championship marks the final event of the team’s 2011-12 season.
