Alain Baxter wins 2005 BBC Superstars titleAlain Baxter demonstrated his all round sporting prowess with an impressive display of fitness and skill to secure the BBC’s Superstars Title for 2005 in La Manga, Spain.

Baxter improved on his 2004 runners up spot with three individual wins in Kayaking, 100 metres sprint, and the Mountain bike competition, in which he set a new Superstars record.

Baxter needed a good performance in the final event, the gym tests, to secure victory from last years winner and this year’s runner up Athletics star Du’aine Ladejo. An impressive combined total of 156 points from squat thrusts and bar dips earned Baxter a second place and secured the 2005 title.

Ten athletes competed in the final representing five sports, which were Athletics, Cricket, Cycling, Rowing and Skiing.

This performance improved on last week’s impressive display by Snowboarder Lesley McKenna in the female competition where she came third.

Results:
1. Alain Baxter, Skiing
2. Du’aine Ladejo, Athletics
3. Steve Williams, Rowing
