Alpine Canada names 15 to development team

Alpine Canada Alpin earlier this week named 15 athletes to the Canadian Alpine Ski Team’s Development Group.

    The group, made up of six men and nine women, includes several Coupe Pontiac GMC Cup champions as well as Northwest Mutual Funds Coupe NorAm Cup medalists including NorAm champion Marie-Pier Préfontaine, Travis Dawson (who also had two top-10 results at the 2008 World Junior Championships) and Erin Mielzynski, who was the women’s overall Pontiac GMC Cup champion last season and earned a World Cup spot in the super combined by finishing second in the discipline on the NorAm circuit.
    In addition to Mielzynski, newcomers to the training group include Stephanie Irwin, Brittany Phelan, Cameron Brewington, Michael Mackie and Mathieu Routhier, all of whom were members of the Canadian team that competed at the 2008 World Junior Championships.
    The national development group has an intensive summer training program as well as on-snow training camps supported by Aquiline Resources in South America and at Camp Green on Farnham Glacier which is operated by CODA.
