Organizers called off a women's World Cup downhill Friday due to heavy winds.

ALTENMARKT-ZAUCHENSEE, Austria — Organizers called off a women's World Cup downhill Friday due to heavy winds.
Only Dominique Gisin of Switzerland had started before the cancellation.
''These extreme windy conditions made a fair competition impossible, so the only thing we could do is cancel the race,'' said Atle Skaardal, the women's World Cup director.
The race had already been delayed for more than two hours after heavy wind and snowfall caused poor visibility at the upper parts of the course on Friday morning.
Organizers lowered the starting point, which shortened the course from 3005 to 1900 meters.
The downhill race was rescheduled for Saturday, replacing a super combi. Sunday's program, which was to stage a super G, could now be replaced by the super combi that was to be held Saturday, according to an organizer's statement.
Earlier, a men's World Cup super combi in Wengen, Switzerland, was canceled due to overnight rain and warm temperatures.
