American skier killed in avalanche in French Alps{mosimage}ALBERTVILLE, France – A skier was killed in an avalanche while skiing off-piste in the French Alps, officials said Tuesday. Two others were injured.
Jonathan Seigle, 55, from Colorado, was overtaken by an avalanche while skiing on unmarked, ungroomed territory near the resort of Montgenevre on Italy's border, officials said.
The two other skiers, also Americans, were injured but able to reach safely. One was hospitalized, police said.
At least 40 people have been killed in mountain accidents in France this winter.
