Burke Mountain Academy hopes to sell ski area by end of JuneThe Burke Mountain Academy hopes it will be able to sell the Burke Mountain Ski Area by the end of the month. Academy Headmaster Kirk Dwyer said the academy’s owners, who bought the ski area five years ago, had discussed the sale of the resort since they bought it.
Dwyer said one investor has expressed renewed interest in pursuing the purchase of the 750-acre ski area and has a number of parcels of surrounding, privately held land under deposit. The surrounding properties the investor hopes to purchase total about 1,000 acres.
If the ski area is sold, it would remain a public ski area and would continue to depend on skier visits.
Dwyer would not name the prospective buyer, but he said the buyer was developing a ski area in Colorado.
Although there are no current plans to add additional trails at Burke, the investors would like to replace older ski lifts with new lifts, conduct trail maintenance and improvements, and improve snow making capabilities.
