Canada dominates Australia skicross events


The Canadian men’s skicross team, getting in some off-season work at Australia’s Mt. Hotham, swept the first six spots and eight of the top 10 in an Australia-New Zealand Cup skicross event earlier this week. Canada’s Aleisha Cline, meanwhile, topped the women’s race.
    Brian Bennett, Cam Culbert, and Brady Leman comprised the podium in the men’s race. David Duncan, Davey Barr and Chris DelBosco finished 4-5-6. Nick Zoricic (eighth) and Stanley Hayer (ninth) rounded out the top-10 finishers for Canada.

    Cline beat Australia’s Jenny Owens for the win, with Cline’s teammate Julia Murray third.

World Cup moguls champ Uemura wins Down Under
The Australia-New Zealand Continental Cup in opened in Australia with two moguls events at the Perisher Blue Ski Resort on Aug. 22-23.
    Teams from eight nations – the United States, South Africa, Japan, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Canada and Australia — are taking advantage of bumper snowfalls for excellent summer training and competitions. Several top World Cup freestyle skiers participated in the first events including the women’s World Cup mogul champion Aiko Uemura of Japan, who won the first women’s event and took second in the other one, behind Australian 20-year-old Emma Chapman-Davies. Wins in both of the men’s events went to Osamu Ueno of Japan.
    The ANC in freestyle skiing will conclude at Mt. Buller with the ABOM Mogul Challenge Aug. 30.
