Loveland NorAm GS podium (Andy Mielzynski)

Heavy snowfall during the second run couldn’t hold back the charging Canadian ladies who proved their dominance over several World Cup regulars in the second of two contested Loveland NorAm giant slalom races. Norway’s Nina Loeseth, who won yesterday, managed to squeeze onto the podium in third behind race winner Marie-Michele “Mitch” Gagnon and runner-up Marie-Pier “M-P” Prefontaine of Canada. Canuck teammate Erin Mielzynski finished fourth.

Austria’s Kathrin Zettel, who finished second in the opening World Cup giant slalom race of the year in Soelden, Austria, struggled in both runs and could only muster fifth in the Continental Cup race. The Swiss team also had difficulty and only had one athlete, Jasmina Suter, crack the top 10. Wendy Holdener failed to finish the first run along with low-point skiers Michaela Kirchgasser of Austria and Emi Hasegawa of Japan.

The top American in the race was the U.S. Ski Team’s Resi Stiegler who finished 17th, followed by development team athletes Paula Moltzan in 19th and Katharine Irwin in 20th.
