Chamonix: Osborne-Paradis wins final training run

Canadian Manuel Osborn-Paradis claimed the final training run for the Chamonix World Cup downhill, edging Marco Buechel of Liechtenstein by eight hundredths of a second. America's Marco Sullivan posted third.
    Austrian Michael Walchhofer was fourth and Canadian Erik Guay fifth.
    There were ties in both sixth and eighth place with Klaus Kroell and Andrej Jerman getting sixth and three competitors, Rainer Schoenfelder, Patrick Staudacher and Mario Scheiber locked together for eighth.
    Although the top of the finish order was strong for the North Americans, there was not another between Guay's fifth and John Kucera in 34th. Bode Miller finished 37th, Francois Bourque 38th, TJ Lanning 41st and Jeff Frisch 43rd. Still those were stronger than the one man in the field who has won a downhill on the Chamonix course. Hermann Maier was 47th.
    The race happens Saturday.
