Week 13 recap
The rich get richer and the rest pay taxes. … Just one change in the standings as the Weekend Warriors vaulted over three players to move into fifth place. The top four all won to put some distance on the pack. … And from the cellar the Destroyers roared, posting the high total on the first Olympic week.

There were some very close matchups, however. Let’s look at the Destroyers and a 311-87 mauling of Hawk’s Harem. The SG win from Aamodt, while a historic event on the Olympic scale, was just icing on the cake for the Destroyers, who also had 50 from the old Norwegian in combined and a DH podium for Michael Walchhofer for the cruise-control win over the Harem, which couldn’t decide what to do about Lindsey Kildow’s injury, dropped her for the DH and paid for it when Fraenzi Aufdenblatten finished down the ladder from the courageous Kildow. Despite 65 points over two events from Julia Mancuso, the Harem didn’t have enough hands available to stop the potent Destroyer pillaging.

The Interosseous Membrane stretched the limits, but had enough to stop the Hammers 91-52. Daron Rahlves’ relatively weak showing in DH, and Bennie Raich’s uncharacteristic fault should have been enough to leave the Membrane porous, but the Hammers took a big hit from the injury to Kildow and had Bruno Kernen in the wrong position, getting 13 for SG instead of the DH podium.

In another close battle, the Blacks with Hermann Maier, Marlies Schild and Mancuso in the DH went head-to-head against Rick’s Rangers with Anja Paerson, Martina Ertl-Renz and Renate Goetschl in the DH post. Paerson had enough to hold off the Herminator, but with enough cushion to overcome the Schild silver medal. The Blacks prevailed 236-222.

Up until the final events, Birds of Pray looked to have the league-leading Team PMS locked in the powder room, but with Michaela Dorfmeister’s DH win holding PMS in contention, Janica Kostelic put PMS over the top with her combined gold while Niki Hosp dropped in another 45 points. The flock got the wings clipped despite a late position switch to aquire Aamodt’s gold medal in the SG position and a scramble of points from Bode Miller, Fritz Strobl and Maier from DH. A strong showing to be sure, but no help in the standings when getting put in the nest by the league’s power team.

The Ribbons pulled a late charge off the roll in a close battle with the Smokin’ Mirrors when Maier gave the squad an 80-point SG result to move on by 168-145. The Mirrors needed the postponed women’s SG and couldn’t get it, falling short despite the Dorfmeister gold medal and 45 more from Miller in the DH position

The Weekend Warriors got a win streak on the board with a second straight week of potency, getting 80 from Walchhofer in the DH position and 50 from Kathrin Zettel plus two scores from Didier Defago. The Schwarzeneggers faltered for a third straight week as main Oestreicher Alexandra Meissnitzer posted a moderate placing that even doubled up wasn’t enough to overcome.
