Week 15 recap
There were some fabulous matchups this week, with the premier battle a fight for second in the standings between the Blacks and Interosseous Membrane. The Blacks prevailed by a scant 33 points and found a final race podium from Nicole Hosp to sprint to the lead. The Membrane crew put up good numbers with Benjamin Raich posting 95 in two races as he seeks to protect his World Cup overall lead, and Aksel Svindal posted 100 in two races.

Team PMS has all but mathematically sealed the championship despite Rick’s Rangers fighting hard with its second-highest point total of the season. With Janica Kostelic pitching a three-event total of 158 and Nicole Hosp a three race total of 135 in the PMS overall positions there was little the Rangers could do to offset the onslaught. The Rangers tried to counter with 165 out of Anja Paerson, and got a podium from Tanja Poutiainen in the GS position but could not stay with the PMS power.

The Birds of Pray registered its highest point total of the season at 336 to dust the Hammers. The Birds used the free-agents list to pick up Nadia Styger in both an overall and SG positions, and was rewarded heavily with 200 points. The Birds also grabbed Fred Nyberg with the men scheduled for two GS’s and got another 130 for the GS position; Canny work. The Hammers put up a game showing, getting 150 out of Lindsey Kildow and 98 from Massimiliano Blardone, but lost all hope when Kildow was a DNF in the final Norwegian event.

It was another close battle between the Weekend Warriors and Hawk’s Harem and the Warriors used a 91-point three-race effort from Kathrin Zettel, another 106 from Kalle Palander and Raich’s 95 in the GS position to edge past the Harem. Hawk’s ladies made a strong push with Maria Rienda grabbing the final win of the weekend and a podium from Tanja Poutiainen, but Julia Mancuso’s three-event scoring punch for the weekend wasn’t quite enough.

The Smokin’ Mirrors was all about the overall positions with Michaela Dorfmeister carrying the load with the SG win and a game effort in GS for a 155 total. That, alone, was enough to sneak by the Schwarzeneggers despite a four-position scoring drive as Elisabeth Goergl, with 69, led the point list.

The Destroyers grabbed Anja Paerson off the waiver wire in time for the final GS and the 45 points she gained both led the team and got the win over the once-proud Ribbons, which dropped its second straight match and slid to fourth place.

With two weeks remaining, four teams could take the title, but it will take some nasty big scoring to overtake Team PMS. At least three of the top four teams will be cheering for the Birds of Pray in week 16.
