There has been some shifting of positions within the International Ski Federation (FIS) that permeate out to some member nations.

Niklas Carlsson, the FIS Event and Sponsorship Manager has been appointed the new Alpine Director at the Swedish Ski Association, a position he will take up Aug. 1. He will succeed Andes Sundqvist who is still in discussions with the Swedish team regarding his future. “Andres Sunqvist has done a good job during his years as the Alpine Director,” said the Swedish Ski Association Secretary General Per Lehmann. Carlsson formerly served the Swede’s as the alpine team’s head coach and indicated he wanted to return to rejoin his young family full time. It is anticipated he will be proposed as a FIS Alpine Committee Member.

Replacing Carlsson will be the current FIS Snowboard Race Director Marcel Looze, a former Sports Director for the Netherlands Ski Association. It is expected he will fit easily into his new role as Event and Sponsorship Manager having been instrumental in securing FIS Snowboard World Cup title sponsor LG Electronics. Looze will continue as Race Director through the FIS Congress, attending additional event and sponsor meetings.

Replacing Looze as Snowboard Race Director will be Uwe Beier, a former head coach of the German Snowboard Team who has worked as a techn ical advisor with the FIS for the past four seasons. He will begin his new position on a full time basis May 1.
