BEAUPRE, Quebec — U.S. Ski Team athlete Sterling Grant, on the rebound from a November knee injury, won Saturday’s Northwest Mutual Funds NorAm Cup slalom race at Mont-Ste-Anne to lead a top-three sweep by U.S. racers.
Grant, the reigning NorAm slalom champion who tore the MCL in her knee during downhill training, posted a two-run combined time of 1 minute, 49.14 seconds to edge Laurel Carter by 0.15 seconds. Jilyne McDonald finished third with a time of 1:49.73.
Canada’s Shona Rubens narrowly missed her fourth podium finish of the week, finishing fourth Saturday. Rubens finished third in Wednesday's opening GS, tied for the GS win on Thursday and finished second in Friday’s slalom. Rounding out the top 10 were Marie-Michele Gagnon of Canada in fifth, American Hailey Duke sixth, Canada’s Megan Ryley — Friday’s slalom winner — in seventh, and Americans Leanne Smith and Gretchen Mielke in ninth and 10th, respectively.
