Janka has surgery for heart problem
Carlo Janka underwent surgery last week earlier than originally planned because of increased symptoms from his heart arrhythmias.
The operation took place Feb. 23 February. A radio frequency catheter intervention was done interrupting unnecessary accessory pathways to the heart. These paths have caused Janka’s heart rate behaved abnormally during exercise and stress.
Janka recovered well from surgery and have been cleared to begin again Feb. 28. His situation will be monitored carefully in the upcoming days and weeks. It is possible that Janka will be adding additional days of rest. Certainly, a complete recovery at the end of the season will be necessary, which will also serve the purpose of assessing the success of the procedure. If all goes as planned, Carlo Janka will already be at the start of a World Cup race next weekend in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia
Janka said, “The timing after the World Championships in Garmisch was just right, and therefore we decided to have the surgery done – what is done is done. At the moment I do not feel a big difference to before. Today [Monday] we had too much fog on Lenzerheide, so that we could not train on the snow. In the next few days we will see how my heart behaves under stress. “
