Jerome podiums in windy conditions at Oberstdorf

American jumper Jessica Jerome got her third podium in three events placing third at the Oberstdorf, Germany, Continental Cup today. The U.S. team finished with four in the top 15 on a hill that suited their strengths, Jerome said.
"This is a power hill," she said. "The girls who aren't as strong in perfect conditions aren't going to go as far."
With windy conditions, the women had to battle head and tail winds that would come and go. Luck played a role in the final outcome, but with brute strength the U.S. team—known to be a little bigger and stronger than their European competition—dealt with it well.

"The Americans as a whole are good with power," added Hughes, who placed 11th and got her best result of the early competition season. "The program our coach has put us on has helped us with our strength."
Germany's Ulrike Graessler bested Jerome and second place finisher Magdalena Schnurr of Germany with a total of 221 points. America's Lindsey Van, who struggled with a cold, placed sixth and Alissa Johnson finished in eight place.
The women have their final Oberstdorf competition tomorrow.
