Competition kicked off today at the 2009 Cross Country Ski Junior Olympics and XC Junior National Championships in Truckee, Cali, hosted by Auburn Ski Club and the Far West Nordic Ski Education Association. Men and women racers OJ-J2 were tested on a 1K-sprint course at Donner Summit.

The Midwest Division’s Doug DeBold led the OJ men, followed by Reese Hanneman of the FAST Alpine Ski Team in second and Miles Havlick of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation in third.

The University of Utah’s Parker Tyler won the OJ women’s race. The Midwest Division’s Corrine Malcolm finished second, followed by Briana Perkins of the Summit Nordic Ski Club in third.

Ethan Dreissigacker of the Craftsbury Nordic Ski Club took the men’s J1 race, followed by Erik Bjornsen of the Methow Valley Nordic Team in second and Main Winter’s Nick Michaud in third.

J1 women were led by Jessie Diggins of the Midwest Division. Park City Nordic Ski Club’s Elizabeth Guiney finished second, followed by the Bridger Ski Foundation’s Katie Gill in third.

Logan Hannenman of the FAST Alpine Ski Team took the men’s J2 race. Alaska Nordic Racing’s Issac Lammers and the Bridger Ski Foundation’s Akeo Mayfield-Carucc finished second and third, respectively.

Stella Holt of the Glacier Nordic Ski Team won the women’s J2 race, followed by Corey Stock of the Cambridge Sports Union in second and Tara Geraghty-Moats of the Craftbury Nordic Ski Club in third.    

Competition continues Wednesday with freestyle races.
