Ligety joins Coca-Cola's Olympic 'Four Pack'Tweet
The Olympics just got a little sweeter for Ted Ligety.
Coca-Cola announced this week the gold medalist will be part of the company’s “Four Pack” of athletes to serve as ambassadors for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
Ligety will be involved in the soft drink company’s marketing efforts for Sochi 2014 — encouraging fans to lead healthy, balanced lifestyles, according to Coke.
The group also includes two-time Olympic figure skating medalist Michelle Kwan, gold medalist in men’s figure skating Evan Lysacek and Amy Purdy, a three-time World Cup champion in para-snowboarding and Paralympic hopeful for Sochi.
“To be associated with a company like Coke, you have to be among the best,” Ligety told USA Today. “They’re not going to pick the 20th fastest athlete in the world. I think that’s cool validation of what you’ve done in your sport and who you are as well… It’s just cool to see them recognizing that.”
This will be the fourth straight Games in which Coca-Cola has featured an assortment of athletes as part of its Olympic marketing program. Previous “Six Pack” and “Eight Pack” athletes collected 30 total medals during the campaigns.
