McPhie back atop podium at Are World Cup

On a beautiful bluebird day, Heather McPhie won her third FIS World Cup mogul competition of the season.

“I worked with my coaches and had a really great plan coming into today,” said McPhie. “My training didn’t go really well but I kept improving round by round and was able to keep my skiing consistent while improving my air and my jumps. I was just focusing on my skiing and trusting what I know I can do out there. The course is really challenging and there is not better feeling than walking away from the last single moguls event of the season with a win. And do be up there with Eliza makes it that much more fun.”

The fast course rocketed Eliza Outtrim into second place and onto her fourth podium of the season, and it allowed Patrick Deneen’s speed and amplitude to land him a second place finish for the men.

“I qualified eighth this morning and just kind of moved up the ranks each round,” said Outtrim. “My runs got faster and my skiing got tighter and my air was bigger each round. My skiing just improved overall as the competition continued. Ending up in second is something I couldn’t be happier about. Ending the last singles event of the year in second is really awesome. It’s my fourth podium in singles and it gives me that extra boost of confidence to try and pull something out tomorrow in duals.”

“The course here is really great, and incredibly technical.” said Deneen. “If you don’t show up with a plan you won’t succeed here. I knew what I had to do in training here and I went out and didn’t do any of it, but somehow I was able to pull it together when it counted during the competition today. The best skiing I had all day was in my qualifying and finals rounds.”

World Champion Hannah Kearney finished 14th, knocking her out of the World Cup point lead.
