Men's staff revamped at US Ski TeamTweet
Forest Carey gets a promotion and will work with Ted Ligety and Bode Miller as the men’s half of the US Ski team announced staffing changes for the Olympic season today (May 10). Miller’s uncle Mike Kenney will return to the team as Carey’s assistant and be joined by Adam Cole.
Andreas Evers, hired prior to last season, remains the head of the speed group with TJ Lanning and Scotty Veenis. Condition coach Tony Beretski and former team member Chris Beckmann round out that crew.
Bernd Brunner remains in control of the World Cup B program, but has been boosted to the head technical coach position in addition. Josh Applegate, Kyle Darling and former development coach Ian Garner will work under Brunner with Bob Poehling managing conditioning.
Randy Pelkey will continue to lead the men’s C team and Development Teams with assistance from Ian Lochhead and Erik Holmer.
“We can’t rest on what (Ligety) has already done and we also need resources to support Bode as he prepares for a fifth Olympics,” said head coach Sasha Rearick. “In order to do that we’ve created a program that enables our staff to help push Ted and Bode to continually improve.
“With the speed side,” Rearick continued, “we made some big changes last year and now we’re seeing the momentum move in the right direction, but we still needed to step up. We need to cover the hills better and we need staff to do that, but what we did was bring in a conditioning specialist to work with the guys 12 months a year and we also brought in former athlete Chris Beckman to provide perspective and to develop for the future.
“Bernd was brought in last year to focus on fundamentals on the World Cup B guys and we saw a lot of progress out of his group with guys like Tommy Biesemeyer and Robby Kelley, it’s only natural for him to stick with those guys as we combine the tech team and the World Cup B guys into one group that will drive the entire program in one direction.”
