Michael Radford and Angie Elliot tops in Western Topolino Shootout{mosimage}Park City’s Angie Elliot and Sugar Bowl’s Michael Radford will join Ski Club Vail’s Hunter Schleper and Delainey Ackerman as representatives of the United States at the Trofeo Topolino Children’s Games in Italy in February.

Elliot and Radford won the Western Region’s Topolino Shootout at Park City, Utah, Dec. 29 and 30, earning the region’s first two spots to the annual international competition for J3s.

Elliot “pretty much dominated the GS,” according to Western Regional Director Jeff Kai, as she notched wins in all three GS trials. She even threw in a first in the following day’s slalom trials for good measure.

Despite Elliot’s impressive performance, her win was no cakewalk. A super consistent Gabrielle Anthony of Team Savage never finished worse than third, winning a run of slalom, to earn second among the women. Cate Kistler and Felicia Byers also showed strong skiing, challenging for the podium nearly every run.

Radford rode his strong slalom skiing to the win, taking two out of three of the slalom runs and finishing second in the third. Brennan Rubie won a run of slalom and a run of GS, with Jared Goldberg and Nick Daniels also winning GS runs. Rubie finished second and Daniels was third.

The old World Cup system was used to score the Shootout, with 25 points awarded to the winner, down to one point for 15th. The winner for the men and women earned spots to race for the U.S. team at Topolino. The top six men and women from the West will also be invited to the Junior Champions camp in Park City later this month. There, they will ski and train with other top J3s from the Rocky/Central and Eastern regions.
