The FIS announced today that due to warm temperatures and no cold weather in the near forecast, the Alpine World Cup parallel city event scheduled at the Munich Olympiapark in Germany for Jan. 1, 2015 has been canceled for the third time in four years. There will be no replacement for this race at any other point during the winter.

The event was also canceled in 2012 and 2014 for the same reason.

It has been a particularly slow start for winter in central Europe, as race organizers have struggled with everything from too little snow to too much of it. But the weather patterns, although considered unseasonable, are not so dissimilar from what the region faced last December and early January.

Next year’s city event is tentatively scheduled for Stockholm, Sweden, in February 2016. The Munich event then tentatively returns in 2017.
