NCAA Athletes Sweep Men’s NorAm Slalom in Quebec, Préfontaine leads women in Sunday River

University of Colorado’s Frenchman Gabriel Rivas won today’s NorAm Cup slalom held in Val Saint-Côme, QC. He finished with a combined time of 1:36.76.
 
“I felt confident today. The conditions were the same for everyone and I went out and took some chances,” said Rivas.
 
Two Norwegian athletes joined Rivas on the podium. University of Vermont’s Jonathan Nordbotten finished second with a combined time of 1:36.81 and University of New Mexico’s Petter Brenna was third with a combined time was 1:37.11.
 
Top Canadian, Ryan Semple finished fourth in today’s race with a time of 1:37.86. 
 
Today’s course conditions in Val St-Côme can be attributed to the hard work of the course crew.
 
“Today was a true men’s NorAm with a hard snow surface. We had great cooperation from the mountain and we have the course crew to thank for the course conditions,” said Director of National Programs and Race Events, Phillipe Bernier.

On the women’s side, Canada’s Marie-Pier Préfontaine skied her way to the top of the podium in Sunday River, Maine today for the second time on the NorAm Cup circuit this season. She finished with a two-run combined time of two minutes 2:34.65.
 
Préfontaine who finished first earlier this season in the NorAm Cup GS in Aspen, CO was feeling confident for today’s race.
 
“I was skiing well around Christmas time and was feeling pretty confident. It was a good race today,” said Préfontaine. “The conditions were nice and icy. I wanted to get two solid runs down and that’s what I did.”
 
Megan McJames of the U.S. Ski Team took the second place spot on the podium with a combined time of 2:36.57 and Nadja Vogel of Switzerland finished third with a combined time of 2:37.58.

Racing will continue tomorrow with another NorAm Cup slalom for the men in Val Saint Come, Quebec and a giant slalom for the women in Sunday River, Maine.
