PACED BY A PAIR of wins in the Nordic events and a 1-2 finish in the men’s slalom, Dartmouth won its second consecutive event on the EISA circuit Saturday, cruising to the win in the New Hampshire College Carnival.
Dartmouth more than doubled its lead after Friday’s competition to win going away with 784 points. Vermont finished second with 701, and Middlebury finished third with 668. The same three teams finished 1-2-3 at last weekend’s St. Michael’s Carnival, but the Big Green’s margin was much greater this time around.
The Dartmouth men and women dominated Sunday’s Nordic events at the Jackson Cross Country Center. Senior captain Mike Sinnott won the 20-kilometer classic by almost 15 seconds with a time of 29 minutes, 37.2 seconds. Ben True finished second in 29:51.7 to Sinnott for the second straight day. Vermont racers Anders Folleras and Juergen Uhl finished third and fourth, and Dartmouth’s Ben Koons rounded out the top five.
Elsa Sargent led six Dartmouth racers in the top 10 of the women’s 10 km classic, winning in 35:07.6. Vermont’s Carina Hamel finished a distant second in 35:29.8, and Middlebury’s Jenny Hamilton was third. Susan Dunklee (fourth), Hannah Dreissigacker (fifth), Sara Studebaker (sixth), Audrey Weber (eighth) and Chelsea Little (10th) helped Dartmouth cruise to the event win as a team.
David Chodounsky and Evan Weiss finished 1-2 in Saturday’s men’s slalom at Attitash, flip-flopping the order of Friday’s GS finish. Chodounsky’s two-run time of 1:36.37 bettered Weiss by more than a second (1:37.64). Vermont’s Zach Brown was third in 1:37.81, while New Hamsphire teammates Joe Dunn and Sean McNamara rounded out the top five.
Veronique Leger Archambault of New Hampshire polished off a sweep of the women’s alpine events, crushing the field Saturday in the slalom a day after winning the GS handily. Her time of 1:52.85 bettered Michelanne Shields of Dartmouth in second by 1.27 seconds. Middlebury’s Maddie Ford finished third, New Hampshire’s Cynthia Tessier fourth and Hayley Jones of Dartmouth fifth. New Hamsphire edged Dartmouth by a point for the event win.
