University of Denver skier Annelise Bailly won the women’s 5-kilometer freestyle and DU skiers finished in second, third and fourth in the men's slalom on Saturday as the Pioneers rallied past rival and first-day leader Colorado to win the New Mexico Invitational.

    A day after missing the classical due to illness, Bailly beat undefeated Maria Grevsgaard of Colorado by 9.8 seconds for the victory.
    Antje Maempel was fourth, and Katie Ronsse completed DU’s scoring in 20th place, giving the women 71 points, trailing only CU (76 points).
    Three men finished in the top 10 of the 5 km freestyle, paced by Friday’s classical winner John Stene in third. Harald Lovenskiold was seventh in the race, and Mike Hinckley came in ninth, giving the Pioneers 74 points and a tie for second with Alaska-Anchorage. Colorado won with 78 points.
    Denver won the men’s slalom with 84 points, 16 points better than second-place Utah, as John Buchar came in second, Seppi Stiegler was third and Francesco Ghedina finished fourth.
    Jenny Lathrop found the podium with a second-place finish in women’s slalom.
    The NCAA Western Regionals are next up, scheduled for Feb. 22-23 in Montana.
