The Dartmouth College Ski Team sits in first place with 455 points after the first day of the Williams College Winter Carnival.
WILLIAMSTOWN, Massachusetts — The Dartmouth College Ski Team sits in first place with 455 points after the first day of the Williams College Winter Carnival. The Big Green cross-country team led the way, scoring the maximum amount of points possible after sweeping the men’s and women’s 10-kilometer races. The University of Vermont trails in second with 428 points, and Middlebury College is third with 393 points.
    It was a great day for the Big Green at the Prospect Mountain Nordic Ski Center in Woodford, Vermont. For the women’s team, junior Elsa Sargent won the 10-kilometer freestyle with a time of 34 minutes, 28.2 seconds. Following close in second was senior Sara Studebaker in 34:34.3. Finishing off the top three was freshman Laura Spector with an impressive time of 34:37.9.  
    On the men’s side, senior captain Mike Sinnott stole the show yet again, placing first in the 10-kilometer freestyle with a time of 28:13.4. In second place with a time of 29:13.4 was junior Benjamin True and following in third place was sophomore Glenn Randall in 29:21.9.
    The most impressive outing for the alpine team came from senior Evan Weiss, who took first place in the giant slalom at Jiminy Peak with a combined time of 1:50.66. Junior Alex Felix placed sixth with a time of 1:51.87 and senior Dave Chodounsky scored points in ninth place in 1:52.21.  
    On the women’s side, NCAA All-American junior Michelanne Shields took third place honors in the giant slalom with a time of 1:57.08. Senior Sasha Acher placed 13th and freshman Hayley Jones also scored points for the Big Green.  
    Action continues Saturday with the cross-country classic sprints at the Prospect Mountain Nordic Ski Center and the men’s and women’s slalom at Jiminy Peak.
