Nickerson wins Red Bull Homerun in Sweden
First he got talked into doing the course preview, then to join the race. It turned out to be good advice.
Warner Nickerson found himself agreeing to shoot the GoPro course preview for Red Bull Homerun in Are, Sweden. A couple of hours later, he was waxing Bode Miller’s skis, which he snagged, dead set on winning the mass start race from the top of Areskutan that features 500 skiers and snowboarders in what is dubbed a classic “Chinese downhill.”
Whether it was the skis, his 41 FIS victories, getting kissed by Swedish girls, or just being generally stoked that led to a glorious victory can be debated. Either way, Nickerson found himself replacing the brothers Olsson’s usual spot on the roof of Timmerstugan following the race.
Even though he got off to a rough start, heading off on a position back in the 30s, he managed to gain what he lost to finish with a time of 4 minutes and 37 seconds. Not quite as fast as Jon Olsson’s record of 3:44, but that could be blamed on the unusually warm snow conditions this year.
