He followed up a second-place, 134.0meter jump with a time of 25.07.9 in the 10K cross country race. Demong started 29 seconds after jump winner, Finn Anssi Koivuranta but overtook him for the victory.

Koivuranta finished second to hang on to his lead in the standings, followed by German Bjoern Kircheisen in third.

Demong’s results is the four-time Olympian’s fifth career World Cup win and his second of the season. He is now second in the World Cup standings.

“I feel great,” said Demong. “This win is really two things. This is obviously the pre-Olympic World Cup so it’s important to know these venues as well as possible before we come next year. And it’s also the last weekend before I get a couple weeks off. It’s been a long season so far and I’m looking forward to the break and this is a good start to it.”

Also scoring points for the U.S. were teammates Todd Lodwick in 10th, Johnny Spillane in 22nd and Brett Camerota in 31st.

Demong felt right at home in the venue that will host all the nordic events during the Vancouver Games. “This is a world-class facility,” said Demong. “The hill is great. The cross country course is good for both skiers and spectators because the course is challenging and you can see it from the stands.”

Another World Cup nordic combined contest will be held at the same location tomorrow.
