Nordic Combined: Norwegians on top in Oberstdorf

Norway’s Mikko Kokslien took first in today’s (Jan. 8th) World Cup nordic combined, in Oberstdorf, Germany.

Heavy snowfall and wind during the jump, and strong snowfall during the cross country race made for challenging conditions.

Today’s win makes this the fourth Norwegian victory this season. Kokslien is now in tenth overall in the nordic combined World Cup standings.

“I had a good jump today and was pretty satisfied with that.” Said Kokslien.“We made a big step this year as a team and it’s a real joy to be a part of it. I guess, next time, it’s Magnus Moan’s turn to win.”

Norwegian teammate Magnus Moan took second. “In the end, I didn’t win because I made a terrible turn at the bottom of the downhill. Mikko was smarter and had more speed than me.” Moan explained.

German Björn Kircheisen rounded out the podium in third.

Americans Billy Demong and Johnny Spillane punched into the top fifteen in 14th and 15th, respectively, while teammate Bryan Fletcher took sixteenth.

The World Cup now moves to Chaux-Neuve, France on Jan. 14th&15th for a pair of large hill individual Gundersen events.
