Norwegian Jan Schmid won a World Cup nordic combined competition today (Dec. 10) in Ramsau, Austria.

After standing fourth in the jumping portion, Schmid finished the corss country race 2.4 seconds ahead of second-place finisher and leading jumper, France’s Jason Lamy Chappuis.

“I’m not the fastest in the sprint, therefore I searched and found important meters to break away and to reach the finish line alone,” said Schmid. “During the last 15 meters, I observed what happened behind me on the video wall and feared that they could still catch me.”

German Tino Edelmann took third with the second best jump and 26th-fastest cross country run.

Bill Demong led the team of four Americans in 11th place or his best World Cup result since the 2010 season. Bryan Fletcher finished 21st ahead of Todd Lodwick in 29th.
