PLANICA, Slovenia — Adam Malysz won a large hill ski jumping competition at Planica on Friday to reclaim the overall World Cup lead.
The Polish jumper led with both his opening and second jumps.
He first landed 208.5 meters before registering the leap of the day with 221.5 meters and a total score of 423.5 points.
It was Malysz's first victory in Planica, the biggest hill on the World Cup circuit.
Simon Ammann of Switzerland came in second with 208.5 and 213.5 meters. Jernej Damjan of Slovenia took third place, jumping 206.5 and 205 meters.
The victory lifted Malysz above Norway's Anders Jacobsen in the overall standings with just two more jumps to go in the season calendar — both in Planica this weekend.
Jacobson finished sixth, spoiling his chances with a modest first-round jump of 197 meters before soaring 210 meters in the second.
Alan Alborn was the only U.S. jumper in the field. He posted 183.5 meters on his first jump and ended up in 35th place.
Friday's competition was moved to Planica from Vikersund in Norway due to adverse weather conditions.
