According to a story published by Reuters Aug 12, three Russian biathletes have been banned from competition for testing positive for EPO. Olympic gold medalist Albina Akhatova and World Champions Ekaterina Iourieva and Dmitri Yaroshenko have all been handed down two-years bans from the International Biathlon Union (IBU) for using the blood booster.

According to the IBU the athletes’ positive test results came at a World Cup competition last December in Ostersund, Sweden.

This decision comes after the trio was given a provisional suspension that went into effect in February, sidelining them for the World Championships in Pyeongchang, South Korea that month.

All three have told Russian media they would appeal the ban.
