Paul Sheils, the bronze medal winner from yesterday’s super G, took top honors today (March 16) in the Marriot J3 Championships – East at Sugarloaf, Maine, one tick of the hundredths clock shy of a full second ahead of super G champion Christian Gallagher.

Sheils, a Rochester, NY skier attending Burke Mountain Academy had a solid first run lead and put enough punch in the second heat to finish well ahead of Gallagher, a Green Mountain Valley School competitor.

Claiming the bronze medal was Gould Academy skier William Kannegieser of Minot, Maine.

Scott Schibli was fourth, Victor Wiacek fifth and Ryan Znamierowski posted the sixth fastest two run time.

The championships continue with women’s GS tomorrow.
