THE U.S. SKI TEAM HAS ANNOUNCED the return of U.S. Ski Team Day — slated for Feb. 10, 2007 — at participating ski areas around the country. For each ticket sold on event day, one dollar will be donated by the host resorts to support and develop programs for rising athletes. The inaugural event helped kick off the excitement of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games domestically as more than 50,000 skiing enthusiasts became honorary team members for the day.
"U.S. Ski Team Day 2007 will celebrate skiers' national passion" said Bill Marolt, U.S. Ski Team president and CEO. "We know that tomorrow's competitors are making turns today at ski areas and resorts across the country. Our gratitude goes out to our partner resorts for helping us groom the next generation of U.S. athletes."
Guests who purchase a U.S. Ski Team Day lift ticket at these select venues will qualify to receive a complimentary subscription of either Ski Magazine or Skiing Magazine, courtesy of event partner Mountain Sports Media. In addition, U.S. Ski Team Day 2007 will partner with Nature Valley NASTAR to offer special ski racing opportunities at participating resorts.
Fresh off an exciting Olympic season that included gold medals by then 21-year olds Julia Mancuso and Ted Ligety as well as bronze by moguls skier Toby Dawson, the 2006-07 winter will be another big season as athletes compete for world championship medals. "Just as U.S. Ski Team Day helped us launch the Torino Games with fans in the U.S., the 2007 event will energize our team as they compete for medals at the World Championships," added Marolt, a 1964 Olympian.
The start of the World Championships in Are, Sweden, will coincide on the calendar with the domestic U.S. Ski Team Day campaign.
Ski areas are currently registering to host the 2007 event. Participating areas will celebrate the day with special collateral elements and will receive educational support materials to assist the development of local skiers.
More information about the event, including a list of participating resorts, will be available at www.usskiteamday.com
