Ski Racing magazine partners with Rival Films for Web video contentBOULDER, Colorado — Ski Racing International, publisher of Ski Racing magazine and SkiRacing.com, announced today that it has reached an agreement with Salt Lake City, Utah-based production company Rival Films to produce a series of short films.

The short films will be broadcast on www.SkiRacing.com beginning this fall and will feature World Cup athletes from all ski disciplines. This project is one element of a full relaunch of the Ski Racing Web site, with the first round of changes coming in early October. The first series will feature 2006 Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety of Park City, Utah.

“It is no secret that the face of media has changed,” Ski Racing Publisher Andy Hawk said. “Even in our little niche of snowsport competition, users have many choices for how they receive information, and we plan to continue to lead this content category. Our magazine will continue to publish top-notch athlete, competition and industry news, while our Web site will cover the daily updates and interactive content that brings it all to life.”

Rival Films, now the exclusive production company of Ski Racing International, produces critically acclaimed nonfiction sports films. Founded in 2001 by filmmaker Matt Fults, the company has produced four feature films and more than 30 short films.

“This is an excellent opportunity for us to continue to tell great stories and reach a whole new worldwide audience,” Fults said. “We are excited by this partnership and can’t wait to get started.”

Rival Films produced a Web video earlier this summer for SkiRacing.com documenting a day in the life of the U.S. women’s ski jumping team. Click here to see that insider’s look at ski jumping.

Rival Films has released “Beyond the Games,” “The Birth of Legends,” “Hockey’s Greatest Era” and “114 Days: The Race to Save a Dream.” These feature-length films have been shown theatrically on national and regional television and are available on DVD. Among the networks that have aired content from Rival Films: ESPN Classic, NBCOlympics.com, Fox Sports Net, Madison Square Garden Network, ComcastSportsNet, Altitude Sports & Entertainment, Yahoo! Sports, ESPN2, CNN, NBC’s “Weekend Today” and the CBS “Early Show.” Rival’s work has been cited by noted publications, including The Boston Globe, Detroit Free Press, TV Guide and Montreal Gazette.
