Soelden World Cups given the green light

FIS representative Hans Pieren has given the okay for the races at Soelden to go ahead.

There had been questions if there would be enough snow for the two World Cup giant slaloms to be conducted, but snow in the past week and a forecast for continued cold weather were enough for Pieren to give the go ahead.

“Nothing will stand in the way,” said race director Rainer Gstrein.

The races are the opening events of the 2010 World Cup season. A women’s race is set for Saturday Oct. 24 and the men’s race Sunday, Oct. 25.

“We have a snow cover of about 30 centimeters (about a foot),” Gstrein said, indicating the low temperatures have kept the snow quite powdery. He said the surface would be injected with water, starting in the middle of the coming week, to ensure the surface would be capable of holding up through the races.
