Spanish racer Carolina Castillo Ruiz was the fastest in women’s World Cup downhill training in Tarvisio, Italy, on Thursday, but Stacey Cook is looking very speedy. Again.

Ruiz finished the training run in 2 minutes, 1.78 seconds, but Cook was a mere .05 behind her. Several girls finished within a split second of each other training on the long, sweeping course, including Fabienne Suter (.12 seconds off the lead pace), Emily Brydon (.14 off), Monika Dumermuth (.22 off) and Elizabeth Goergl (.42 off), who led training on Wednesday.

Cook was seventh in Wednesday’s training and fresh off her best downhill finish of the season – a ninth place in the World Championships race at Val d’Isere.

Vonn finished 12th in Thursday’s training and Julia Mancuso 14th. Tracy also pointed out Wednesday that training runs are rarely indicative of race results.  Kaylin Richardson, who was 30th in training on Wednesday and 43rd on Thursday, will round out the U.S. Team’s downhill squad in the race on Saturday.

Racing in Tarvisio kicks off with super-combined on Friday, followed by Saturday’s downhill and a super G on Sunday.
