TARVISIO, Italy — Swiss skier Tamara Wolf has escaped with relatively minor injuries after an ugly crash during a World Cup downhill on Saturday.
“She suffered a very hard blow to the head and strained a ligament in her right knee,” Swiss coach Hughes Ansermoz said. “It’s really nothing compared to how bad the crash was. She was very lucky.”
Wolf will miss the final two weeks of the season.
“She does not require surgery,” Ansermoz added.
Wolf appeared to lose control after hitting a gate, tumbling over and landing on the back of her neck, briefly losing consciousness. She was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital in nearby Udine, and will be transferred to Zurich on Sunday.
Wolf was the fourth skier injured on the Prampero course this week after teammate and good friend Dominique Gisin, Kathrin Zettel and Renate Goetschl.
