VAL THORENS, France – John Teller of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., muscled his way to victory at the final ski cross Olympic qualifier at the FIS World Cup in Val Thorens. It was the best U.S. result of the season after Teller placed 11th in a race in Val Thorens back in December. Victor Oehling Norberg of Sweden and Canadian David Duncan rounded out the podium in second and third, respectively, while U.S. athlete Joe Swensson finished 18th.

“I have had a tough year so far but am beyond happy to start the middle of my season this way,” said Teller. “I feel that I have just hit my stride and am ramping up for February. I have to thank my tech Chris Taylor for the rockets that got me to the final and the top step of the podium.”

U.S. Olympic team nominations for ski cross are expected Jan. 21. While athletes need two top-three finishes to meet the objective criteria, the strength of Teller’s finish today  makes him a strong candidate for Olympic selection.

“I think we had about the same tail wind today (as yesterday), but the visibility was a little bit better,” added Teller. “I think that was a big key for me. Being able to see really helped me get through to win this thing.”
