American Paula Moltzan of the Buck Hill Ski Club took the silver medal in the women’s slalom at the Trofeo Topolino in Levico Terme, Italy yesterday. The international competition brings together the world’s top 11-13-year-old ski racers for the most prestigious children’s ski event in the world.

Germany’s Marlene Schmotz won the women’s slalom, while Slovenia’s Eli Plut took third. American Mardene Haskell of the Holderness School finished 14th.

Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen won the men’s slalom followed by Croatian Ivan Mihelcic in second and Australian Callum Brown in third.

Americans Eric Haferman of the Bridger Bowl Ski Education Foundation and Michael Boardman of the Burke Mountain Academy finished seventh and 24th, respectively.

The women’s giant slalom went to Marta Bassino of Italy, followed by Austrian Claudia Stueckler in second and Stella Fronzaroli of Switzerland in third.

Austria’s Mathias Graf took the men’s GS followed by Slovenian Job Rupkin in second and Switzerland’s Loic Millard in third.  

American racers were selected by the U.S. Ski Team’s National Development System and represent U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association clubs from all over the country.

It is the 13th consecutive year a U.S. team has taken part in Trofeo Topolino. Past champions include the U.S. Ski Team’s double World Champion Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) and rising speed star Andrew Weibrecht (Lake Placid, NY).

Competition continues today with combination and giant slalom races.
