Torino 2006 television plans{mosimage}An editorial plan – with programs, reports and special features, on terrestrial and satellite networks – that will accompany the approaching of the Olympic Winter Games through the promotion of its sports disciplines and values; the testing of new digital technologies and the full employment of the production centre based in Torino, that will have an important operating and coordinating role in the organisation of the project. Briefly, these are the contents of the memorandum of understanding between RAI and TOROC presented today at the national network’s headquarters in Rome by the RAI’s managing director Flavio Cattaneo, the supervisor to the Olympic Games appointed by the Government, Mario Pescante.

Taking part in the meeting were also the director of RAI Sport, Fabrizio Maffei and the director of the Torino Production Centre, Tommaso Genisio, who will manage the team that will be created to follow the Olympic Winter Games programming. TOROC president Valentino Castellani, deputy president Evelina Christillin, CEO Cesare Vaciago and deputy CEO Luciano Barra were also present. ‘It’s a decisive step – Mr. Pescante stated at the end of the meeting – for the promotion of the Olympic Winter Games: thanks to the collaboration with RAI, Torino 2006 will involve all Italians, bringing to their homes and to young people the other side of sports, made up of history, authentic champions and great humanity. It will also offer the opportunity to show Italy all the efforts that have been and are being made to organise this great event and to underline its unique character’.

The general manager of the RAI, Mr. Cattaneo, underlined the company’s efforts to support Torino 2006; he also confirmed the purchase of the broadcast rights to next season’s World Alpine Skiing Cup, which will be transmitted on terrestrial networks. He also added that the decision to broadcast the Torino 2006 Olympic Games on a single network, like the last two editions of the Olympic Summer Games, will be evaluated after further technical, productive analyses. ‘We are particularly happy – concluded TOROC president Castellani – about the complete cooperation of Torino’s production centre in this project: it is an acknowledgment that points out the correct valorisation of the professionalism and the experience that our territory can make available to the country.’
